Goat Care Workshop!
February 15, 2020!
Workshop is SOLD OUT!
Spend the weekend with Tanya Bryson, co-owner, cheesemaker and manager of Possum Kingdom Kreamery, on the farm, learning the ins and outs of keeping goats. Tanya was educated at Clemson University in Animal Science and Reproductive Physiology and has spent over 20 years living with goats, the last 8 years with Possum Kingdom Kreamery.
In the morning, we will spend time covering subjects like management, housing, fencing, feeding, where to acquire your goats and common issues you may face. We will also cover breeding and what to expect when your doe is expecting. Topics covered will include, when to breed, care of the doe during gestation, preparing for kidding, signs and stages of birth, immediate aftercare of the kids and the doe, what is normal and when to call your veterinarian. You will be able to ask specific questions and will be provided a copy of "Goatkeeping 101" by Caprine Supply as well as handouts with additional information to take home. In the afternoon we will teach practical skills like hoof trimming, tattooing, giving injections, assessing body condition as well as talk about how to spot common illnesses.
Since this class will be held during the thick of our kidding season there will be young kids on hand and the possibilty of witnessing a live birth. Obviously we cannot guarantee that, but keep your fingers crossed!
The workshop will begin at 8AM and last until 4PM. We will break for an hour for lunch so please bring a bag lunch or snacks for this time. All aspects will be indoors so it will go on rain or shine.
Cost for the Workshop is $125 per person. Couple's who register together can do so for $175. Class is limited to 12 attendees. You must be registered and paid in advance. You can pay in full at the time of sign up OR pay a $50 non-refundable deposit to hold your spot. The balance will be payable the day of the workshop.
